Isomark has developed a patented technology that can be used to
monitor personal health and disease states by measuring and
analyzing isotopic biomarkers through exhaled CO2 samples.
Isomark's technology can rapidly measure a patented set of breath biomarkers for detecting the presence of infection in as little as two hours after onset.
Through this non-invasive measurement of isotopic changes, illnesses and diseases can be detected and rapidly treated before they become serious or chronic. The ability to increase the speed with which an infection can be detected and treated not only can improve the medical outcome for the patient but can represent a significant reduction in the cost of treatment.
Unique applications of this technology include primary clinical disease detection, outpatient medical services, and post-operative monitoring of patients for the contraction of hospital-related infections such as sepsis.
Presently, 1.7 million hospital patients in the United States contract infections annually. More than 750,000 of those infections will lead to sepsis, resulting in more than 200,000 patient deaths and over $33 billion spent in treatment.
Infection also represents one of the leading causes of premature birth and, by extension, birth defects. Because Isomark’s technology relies only on a breath sample, it also may have particular application and benefit in the detection of infection in newborns, for whom many diagnostic measures presently require blood samples.
In addition to its non-invasive nature, Isomark’s technology also can provide near real-time results, in contrast to current diagnostic tests which require hours or days for laboratory analysis. This represents not only a significant health benefit to patients but also substantive cost savings to consumers, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
